#CoronavirusNW: Health takes big chunk of #Covid19 budget─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:41 Tue, 18 Aug 2020
The North West Health Department has spent over 50% of the R124 million coronavirus (Covid-19) budget in the last six months on different service providers.
The department has spent R65 922 572 on more than 30 suppliers in the province, which supplied different items including masks, disposable overalls and temperature scanners, among others.
The department is at the forefront of the fight against the spread of Covid-19 in the province, and is the only provincial department to spend 53% of the set budget.
The other two departments which are also at the forefront against the ripple effects of Covid-19 in the province include Education, which accounts for 26%, and Social Development - which also accounts for 1% of the R124m.
OFM News previously reported that 21 service providers to the North West provincial government have benefited and scored millions of rands for the supply and distribution of coronavirus-related materials.
On Monday, North West Premier Job Mokgoro released the Covid-19 Procurement Disclosure Report 2020 focusing on R124,224 million's expenditure where 50% of the money went to these companies.
The release of the spending report comes amidst a public outcry over massive alleged fraud and corruption regarding Covid-19 procurement processes across the country - including the North West.
Mokgoro on Monday announced that as part of the audit and compliance there is currently an internal audit on all Covid-19 related procurement by various departments.
