At least four more police stations in the Free State have been forced to halt services on Thursday alone, following confirmed Coronavirus cases.

Police stations countrywide have proven to be amongst the most ravaged by the pandemic - with the Free State not being exempted from this phenomenon.

Provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, confirms to OFM News that the Senekal, Odendaalsrus, Thabong and Heidedal police stations - the latter two located in Welkom and Bloemfontein respectively - will now operate from temporary bases until they have been decontaminated and deemed safe for people to enter.

The Senekal community service centre will operate from Matwabeng satellite police station, whilst the Heidedal centre will operate from a different office situated on the same premises as the police station.

Odendaalsrus and Thabong centres will operate from the Parkhome next to the police station, and the Crime Prevention Building respectively.

Free State police commissioner, Baile Motswenyane has apologised to the public for the inconvenience and stresses the public will be informed of the latest developments.

Elsewhere in Welkom, the Bronville police station has been reopened following confirmed Covid-19 cases. The station joins the Bultfontein police station in reopening, following decontamination and deep cleaning.
