Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says the 28-year-old was caught by the Park Road Task Team on Wednesday, after he went on the run in 2019. The suspect is linked to an armed robbery at the Windsorton police station in the Northern Cape and at a filling station in Virginia near Welkom.

In the latter crime, one victim was wounded and several others robbed of their personal belongings. It's alleged that the suspect and three accomplices attacked and robbed the police station, stealing two R5 rifles, four 9mm pistols and ammunition.

The suspect is set to appear in the Virginia Magistrate Court on Friday.

Mnisi says his three accomplices have also been arrested and remain in custody.

The arrest comes after his picture was circulated through in media on Tuesday. Mnisi says the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation extends its appreciation to the media and members of the public for the assistance and efforts that led to the arrest of the suspect within 24 hours.
