Water infrastructure a concern in NC─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:49 Wed, 02 Sep 2020

Residents of Kimberley in the Northern Cape are expected to have running water on Wednesday after a 24-hour water shutdown on Tuesday.
OFM News previously reported that the Sol Plaatje Municipality said the planned water supply interruption was to enable emergency repairs to water infrastructure.
Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, in a statement said the city has been experiencing serious water losses on the 965 pipeline next to the Roodepan area, which led to a drop in reservoir levels despite pumping at full capacity.
He warned communities that repairs would leave the city without water until repairs were done.
Matsie last night announced that the municipality was still working on the pipeline and that residents would soon have water.
Water and electricity losses due to ageing infrastructure in various municipalities are among some of the issues sharply raised by the Auditor-General in his latest local government report.
Kimi Makwetu indicated that this contributes to poor service delivery and high expenditure by municipalities.
He alluded to the fact that it is also of great concern that only one municipality was able to produce a clean audit in this province.
