State to oppose #Senekal protester's bail application─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:00 Fri, 09 Oct 2020
The first court appearance of the 52-year-old man facing charges of malicious damage to property and public violence in the Senekal Magistrate's Court on Friday is about to start.
The State is set to oppose his bail application. The legal representatives of the accused and the state will therefore be forced to make representations to the magistrate.
The 52-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the torching of a police van and damage to a courtroom on Tuesday during the court appearance of two suspects who appeared in connection with the brutal murder of the 21-year-old farm manager, Brendin Horner, at Paul Roux near Bethlehem.
Although a large contingent of journalists and some curious residents arrived at the courthouse early this morning, the court proceedings are only expected to start on Friday afternoon.
Strict security measures and a heavy police presence is being maintained at the Local Magistrate's Court. Several streets have also been cordoned off. The situation remains calm.
