This, however, can be overturned with a rather common procedure. Unfortunately, many South Africans struggling with this condition do not have a medical aid or the funds to have such surgery. Not only do cataracts influence someone’s sight, but it takes away their independence and in many cases their dignity as well.

The Afrikaans Language and Culture Association (ATKV-tak Gemeenskapsteater) became aware of the fact that the number of people struggling with cataracts who are unable to afford the procedure, are increasing rapidly. They would like to get involved and help as many people as possible to restore their sight. Together with Pasteur Eye Hospital and its doctors, the idea for the Sight for Christmas Fundraising Project was born. A Sight for Christmas Day is being planned for mid-December, where as many as possible people’s cataract surgery will be sponsored through this project. A project they hope can become an annual event. They do, however, need the public’s help to raise the necessary funds to give as many people as possible their sight back before Christmas.

How can you become involved? By making a donation. Any amount will help them in their attempt to sponsor as many procedures as possible.
