The briefing comes just days after OFM News reported that the Basic Education Department confirmed preparations for matric exams were well underway in the Northern Cape.

The department’s Director-General Mathanzima Mweli, during his visit to schools in the province, expressed confidence over how the province was preparing for the exams amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Addressing learners and teachers at schools in the Frances Baard- and John Taolo Gaetsewe Districts, Mweli said they were pleased with how the province had been holding weekend classes, and going the extra mile to ensure that teaching and learning take place despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Mweli further applauded the province for precautionary measures placed in schools to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

More than one million candidates countrywide are expected to sit for exams set to kick-off on Thursday until December 15.
