ANC, EFF in tug of war ahead of NC by-elections

ANC, EFF in tug of war ahead of NC by-elections | News Article

There are conflicting reports regarding the political climate in the Northern Cape involving the ruling ANC and the third biggest party in the country, the EFF.

This is ahead of eight much-anticipated by-elections to be held across municipalities in the province. On Thursday, the ANC claimed that it welcomed about 102 members from the EFF in the Jan Kempdorp in the Phokwane Local Municipality. But the leader and provincial chairperson, Aubrey Baartman, tells OFM News that the party wants to put it on record that no EFF member had left the party to join the ANC in Jan Kempdorp. Baartman adds that to the contrary, the party has increased its membership in ward 7, 8 and 9, which form part of Jan Kempdorp.

Meanwhile, the ANC spokesperson, Tshepo Louw, who is adamant of the said event, adds that the party's Regional Chairperson, Mangaliso Matika, welcomed the members because they have realised that EFF is no longer a party they can trust.

Louw further added that these 102 members were allegedly informed that they come with no conditions attached and will be politically rehabilitated through the ANC constitution for them to understand better what is required to be a disciplined member of the ANC.

"They have recommitted themselves to assist the ANC in its tireless efforts to continue to deliver services and change the lives of our people," Louw added.

However, the EFF Provincial Secretary, Shadrack Tlhaole, gave details of the number which he says the party have managed to accumulate. He says the EFF has managed to recruit about 200 new members.

"It is evident that the EFF is growing and following all the organisational principles and requirements. On that note, all our candidates were democratically elected by members of the EFF. We want to address the grandstanding claims that our members have joined the sinking ANC ship on Jan Kempdorp in Phokwane. This is nothing but a lie, our members are committed to the organisation's principles and they know why they joined the EFF," Tlhaole adds.
