NW attorney's sentence suspended for five years─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:45 Wed, 09 Dec 2020
An attorney who was found guilty of misappropriating R4 million meant to buy property in Brits near Rustenburg in the North West ten years ago was sentenced to a ten-year jail term, wholly suspended for five years.
The 46-year-old Isak Snyman on Tuesday 8 December appeared before the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria for the theft of trust funds.
The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, says the accused was hired in 2010 in Brits to purchase and register properties on behalf of clients but instead he misappropriated the funds. She says Snyman pleaded guilty and he was sentenced to a ten-year jail term, wholly suspended for five years on condition that he repays the funds with monthly installments of R50 000 until the balance is paid in full.
He was arrested after the matter was reported to the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit. "Thorough investigations were conducted resulting in the suspect being summoned to court," Rikhotso adds.
