Teams deployed to Pampierstad following storms─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:49 Mon, 14 Dec 2020
Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul confirms a team working with the Disaster Unit from the provincial government has been deployed to the area of Pampierstad.
This comes after heavy storms over the weekend led to the death of two teenagers and left hundreds of houses damaged. Speaking at the handing over ceremony of ambulances to the Health Department on Monday, Saul extended his condolences to the families who lost their children due to the storms.
He says the team from the provincial government is expected to soon determine the extent of the damage to enable the provincial government to come up with an appropriate response.
OFM News on Sunday reported that the police in the Northern Cape opened an inquest docket following the tragic death of two youths, aged 12 and 18. It is alleged they sought shelter near a wall, which then collapsed on them during a storm that destroyed houses and shacks in Itereleng village near Pampierstad.
Police spokesperson, Olebogeng Tawana, confirmed two more people sustained injuries and had to be transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment. "The whole area of Pampierstad has been affected; electricity is down, trees were uprooted and roofs blown off some houses in the area" said Tawana.
