Opposition wants accountability for #Estina─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:06 Wed, 06 Jan 2021
The DA in the Free State maintains politicians should be held accountable for the failed Estina project.
The party's provincial leader, Roy Jankielsohn, says former Premier Ace Magashule and former Agriculture MECs Mosebenzi Zwane and Mamiki Qabathe must be held accountable and requests the Hawks to launch perjury investigations against Magashule. The project worth more than R220 million once again drew controversy late last year when Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane found Magashule and Zwane guilty of failure to execute oversight responsibilities as entrusted to them by the Constitution. She found that there was political interference in the project. Following the damning report released on December 21st, Jankielsohn is calling on the Hawks to investigate.
OFM News has previously reported that funds earmarked to assist 80 upcoming farmers in Vrede were looted from of the province without any beneficiary seeing a single cent.
Testimonies before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry have revealed how the department made a R30 million upfront payment to Estina without any work being done or services rendered and how Estina’s account had just over R16 in its bank account on 4 July 2012, days before the provincial government deposited the R30 million into its account.
