The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the Free State has described the utterances made by its provincial secretary, Reagan Booysen, on social media about RDP houses as distasteful.

This follows a heated exchange between Booysen and a fellow PEC member, Sello Theepe, on a social media group chat where Booysen appears to mock RDP houses.

The ANCYL spokesperson, Sello Peterson, says the party has since reprimanded the two and further instructed Booysen to issue an apology by no later than Wednesday.

In the post, Booysen told Theepe that his RDP house is the size of Booysen's bar. He further said his house is five times bigger than Theepe's. Peterson says they do not know what the context of Reagan’s utterances was but they condemn the posture.

“We don’t know the context but as the Youth League, we strongly condemn that particular posture, regardless of the intention and the mood. [No matter how angry anybody could be] you cannot speak about such issues,” he adds.

"We have reprimanded them quite seriously and they have had to explain themselves.

“We view any statement, particularly from the leader of our movement, at any level, who seeks to undermine RDP houses as really insulting the poor and it’s not in line with the policies and the standing of the African National Congress (ANC).

"We have called the comrades and they have apologised and explained that they were overcome by emotion,” Peterson further adds.

Booysen's comments have since caused a stir on social media with different users condemning his utterances.
