A 24-year-old man who was allegedly shot in his foot by a security guard employed by the British multinational security services company G4S was discharged from the Klerksdorp Hospital in the North West.

Klerksdorp Hospital's communication manager, Nico Masiu, confirmed with OFM News that the victim was discharged this week after he was admitted to hospital on 29 December following the shooting incident in the Matlosana Mall near Klerksdorp. He suffered a fractured ankle and was initially taken to the Tshepong Hospital in Jouberton but due to his injury, he was later transferred to the Klerksdorp’s Orthopaedic ward.

Police spokesperson, Aafje Botma, previously confirmed to OFM News that indeed the police were investigating a case of negligence against the guard but he wasn’t yet arrested. The G4S company also told OFM News that he was placed on suspension following the incident. OFM News reached out to the family but they declined to comment citing fear of possible contrary statements.

G4S Managing Director, Renso Smit, told OFM News the company notified the authorities upon learning of the incident where a 24-year-old man was shot in his foot on 29 December 2020. Smit said their G4S guards undergo intense and ongoing training on the proper and authorised use of weapons and security equipment.
