'Police must tell the truth' - deceased’s brother─── 12:33 Tue, 12 Jan 2021
The family of Mahlomola Nhlapo from Kestell in the Free State, who reportedly hung himself in a police holding cell mere hours after being arrested, is not pleased with the police's response to the matter.
According to his brother, Thabang Tshabalala, the police must tell his family the truth.
He adds justice should prevail against those responsible for his brother's death.
Tshabalala want to know how his brother could have hung himself with his belt, when belts are not permitted in holding cells.
Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, earlier told OFM News that Nhlapo was arrested after an alleged housebreaking, robbery, and rape. Makhele says he reportedly robbed and raped a 92-year-old woman in Kestell.
He further adds a case of the inquest was opened and the matter was reported to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
