NC parents questioned over baby's death─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:11 Sun, 24 Jan 2021
The parents of a deceased eight-month-old baby in Warrenton in the Northern Cape are under police investigation.
Police spokesperson, Olebogeng Tawana, in a statement says the police have opened an inquest docket into the death of the baby, pending the autopsy results. He adds that preliminary investigations indicate that the baby passed away on 5 January 2021.
Tawana adds this came after the parents allegedly buried their baby in a shallow grave in the area. The mother is said to have given birth to the baby on her own without any medical assistance. She also allegedly failed to alert the health authorities about the birth of the child.
Tawana adds that the body of the baby was exhumed on Saturday, 23 January and the police are awaiting the autopsy results.
"Both parents were taken in for questioning for further investigation. Police investigation continues," Tawana further adds.
