The Mothibistad Regional Court in the Northern Cape has sentenced Kabelo Molumi (66) to 25 years in prison.
Police spokesperson, Mashay Gamieldien, says Molumi raped a 25-year-old disabled woman in September 2019.
Gamieldien says the sister of the victim sent her and a relative on an errand to her uncle in Ditshoshowaneng village.
“When the two did not arrive home, she went looking for them. The sister then received a call informing her that her sister was seen in the company of Molumi. She went to his home where she witnessed through a window the accused busy raping her sister and forced the door open. The incident was reported and the suspect was arrested,” adds Gamieldien.
Molumi’s name was recorded in the National Sexual Offences register.
Police Captain, Caren Nel, commended police for the meticulous investigation of the case resulting in the removal of the perpetrator from society.
