This, as two men aged 73 and 55 years are expected to appear before two local magistrate's courts on Monday in connection with the murder of their partners. Provincial police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says the two suspects – one in Prieska and another in Jan Kempdorp – both allegedly stabbed their partners this past weekend. He says the 55-year-old allegedly stabbed his wife to death at Ethembeni in Prieska following an argument and was thereafter arrested. He adds the 73-year-old man has also been arrested by the police in Jan Kempdorp in connection with the murder of his 56-year-old partner following an alleged dispute.

Ramatseba says police investigations are continuing and “partners are requested to seek assistance from religious leaders, social workers or elders when experiencing problems rather than resorting to violence”.

The two incidents reported in the Northern Cape comes at a time when the country is still calling for the safety of women with some social media users stating that Police Minister Bheki Cele and the judiciary system should do more to ensure that perpetrators do not go unpunished.
