FSfloods: Food parcels bring relief─── 10:15 Thu, 04 Feb 2021
Aid provided by the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality in the eastern Free State has brought a huge sense of relief to flood victims who unexpectedly had to evacuate their homes after ongoing, destructive and heavy rainfall.
OFM News reported that the Disaster Management Team was sent on a mission to help evacuate flood victims and move them to habitable industrial areas.
Nonetheless, many occupants declined the offer of relocating but were overjoyed by the food parcels and hygiene packs given to the flood victims, says the coordinator of Thabo Mofutsanyana's disaster team, Sthembiso Mthombeni.
In addition, Mthombeni tells OFM News that community members of Masimong, between Makwane and Ha-Rankopane in Phuthaditjhaba, desperately need to be relocated to flood relief centres as they are located next to a dumping site. This meaning that during extreme wet weather conditions, everything from the dumping site ends up in peoples houses, adds Mthombeni.
Executive mayor Malefu Vilakazi and her team have gone to extraordinary lengths to assist and ensure that the affected communities' most essential needs are provided for, concludes Mthombeni.
