Influx of visitors at #AugrabiesFalls looks promising | News Article

The Augrabies Falls have speedily climbed the wonderful-wonders ladder in and around South Africa.

This led to the current influx of visitors gathering to witness the miraculous Augrabies Falls in the Northern Cape.

Flowing at 2000 cubic metres per second (cumec) the falls have undoubtedly become a destination to visit, says SANParks spokesperson, Genevieve Maasdorp. Maasdorp tells OFM News that areas in and around the falls have experienced a surge in bookings, in turn promising an economic comeback in the Northern Cape Province.

Moreover, Maasdorp adds that as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown, they experienced a hefty economic backlash. Thankfully, the recent eye-catching water flow has become an economic stabiliser, says Maasdorp.

"We at the Augrabies Falls National Park were fully booked this weekend and all the accommodation is getting fully booked day-to-day," says Maasdorp.

"With water flow of just over 2000 cumec, [it is] expected to rise to just under 3000 cumec. The last time the falls were this high was in 2011."

She goes on to say that SANParks is continuously promoting many other national parks in the province on all their social media platforms, including their website.

“If you haven’t yet experienced the Augrabies Falls National Park, now is the time to come,“ says Maasdorp. She says day visitors are welcome, with no pre-booking required.
