The motion was tabled by Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) and seconded by other councillors from the ANC.

F4SD councillor Steve Madibo says the removal of Kgabi signals victory and vindicates the organisation's promise to fight corruption, poor service delivery and maladministration.

The council has elected Speaker Manini Gouws Notwane as the new mayor, as Notwane resigned as Speaker. Councillor Bassie Maphatswe has been elected to new speaker, with Percival Mokgabi of the ANC saying the mayor's removal is a long-awaited victory in the municipality.
