#SchoolsReopening: Unplaced FS learners a concern─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:33 Mon, 15 Feb 2021
All unplaced Free State learners still battling to find schools will be assisted before the end of February. This is according to the Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe.
Speaking to members of the media at the Nozala Primary School as hundreds of public schools re-opened for the 2021 academic year, Makgoe confirmed there are challenges the department is still plagued with. His statement follows Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga's confirmation that about 24 000 pupils countrywide are still without schools. Makgoe told OFM News they have taken note of learners who are still struggling to find a placement and are working on addressing the challenge.
Makgoe has further appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that they apply for schools well in advance to avoid the delays the department often has to deal with at the beginning of each year.
He added that learners experiencing delays will be helped and brought to speed through extra classes once they are placed in schools.
