Social Development weighs in on ECD centres in NW─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:26 Wed, 17 Feb 2021
Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in Mahikeng in the North West have been provided with adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
This is according to the Social Development Department. Responding to questions raised by the EFF on the lack of PPEs at ECD centres in the province and their inability to ensure the safety of children against the spread of the coronavirus, Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has refuted allegations that her department has failed to provide PPEs to ECDs.
She has, in a parliamentary reply, indicated that close to 60 centres in Mahikeng alone have been provided with masks, sanitisers, and temperature screeners, amongst other necessities. Zulu says over 400 support packages, which include PPEs, has been provided to ECD centres in Mahikeng and they are continuing to roll out this programme to more areas. She further highlights that they are appealing to ECD centres in the North West and in the country at large to ensure that they comply with Covid-19 regulations and to engage their provincial departments where they experience challenges.
