A group of ANC members in the Free State, calling itself the Radical Economic Transformation Forces, pledged its support to former premier and now ANC Secretary-General ahead of his court appearance on Friday. 

Magashule is on Friday expected to face 21 charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering relating to the controversial asbestos deal worth R250 million. He is said to have failed to play an oversight role in the implementation of the failed project that was supposed to see the removal of asbestos roofs in the province. 

Speaking on behalf of the group gathered at Naval Hill, Malefu Mofokeng told the media that the judiciary is seemingly not fair towards certain politicians and have resolved to support a certain faction and ideology. She confirmed that they will continue showing "unwavering support" towards Magashule and former Mangaung Mayor, Olly Mlamleli.

The case against the two, alongside five other accused, was postponed by the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court last year to February 19 with their bail set between R50 000 and R500 000.

The seven include Gauteng businessman Edwin Sodi, who owns Blackhead Consulting, that scored the contract, and former Free State Human Settlements HOD Nthimotse Mokhesi.
