He says he would be surprised if any public representative, including premiers such as Ntombela, would agree that they are under pressure to deliver services.

This, as pressure is mounting on Ntombela and her provincial government to deal with and eradicate corruption - which allegedly thrived under the tenure of former premier and current ANC Secretary-General (SG) Ace Magashule.

Ailing municipalities such as the troubled Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) and various government departments were recently flagged in an Auditor-General's (AG) report.

Matebesi adds that the State of the Province Address (Sopa) by Ntombela on Tuesday will be more of a fanfare of promises from her.

"We are still waiting for the railway line between Bloemfontein, Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu; those were the promises. We also saw recent reports about Ramkraal and all these other projects which just collapsed, and it seems as if nothing is going to come from that - and I don't think… well, once again in passing, corruption will be mentioned and that's it, it is almost like it's a footnote remark," he adds.

Matebesi says he feels as if there is no concerted effort to eradicate corruption. Ntombela has been under pressure from residents in the province and different political parties - including the DA and the EFF - to deal with the alleged corruption in the province.

But Ntombela has always maintained that if any political party in the province has proof of fraud or corruption taking place in the provincial government, they should approach law enforcement agencies such as the police.
