Scenes of violence engulfed the area last week and in this, the local police station was stormed by a group of unidentified people suspected to be gang members. Another group of people allegedly went to the offices of the Matlosana Local Municipality in Klerksdorp and demanded that they be given tenders. 

Following the ugly scenes of violence in the area, over 40 people were nabbed by the police in that area. The ANC IPWC Coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, has urged residents to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies in their ongoing investigations to ensure that the individuals behind these violent attacks face the full might of the law.

“For the past two weeks, the people of Matlosana have been exposed to intimidation, terror and anarchy at the hands of local gang groups. This violence was characterised by the destruction of properties, attack on innocent residents, and the blocking of roads and disruption of schools. We have also received reports that these individuals allegedly stormed a local police station and attempted to steal firearms,” he adds.

Suspects between the ages of 18-40 were nabbed by the Jouberton police in co-operation with the National Intervention Unit (NIU), Air Wing and Public Order Policing (POP) who held a disruptive operation at a guest house in Extention 14, Jouberton.

These suspects are believed to be members of different gangs in the area. During the operation, three firearms with ammunition were confiscated as well as two petrol bombs and numerous dangerous weapons like pangas and knives. They appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court on various charges, ranging from conspiracy to commit a crime to malicious damage to property.
