The Chief Director of Communication in the office of the North West Premier has been reinstated in his old position after a two-year probe cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Brian Setswambung was alleged to have defrauded the province of millions of rands over a two-year period, and was suspended in 2018. The General-Secretary of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), Mugwena Maluleke, says the disciplinary process into the alleged wrongdoing was presided over by an independent chairperson appointed by the employer.
Maluleke, whose union represented the latter, says the chairperson cleared Setswambung - but he was found guilty on only one charge. He served a month suspension without pay.
The office of the Premier is set to release a statement in this regard.
Setswambung's suspension followed after the release of then Auditor-General (AG) Kimi Makwetu's report on the NEPO Data Dynamics contract, and alleged irregular payments to the service provider.
