NW stock theft suspects to reappear in court─── 11:33 Wed, 24 Mar 2021
The case against a 37-year-old man who was arrested on charges of stock theft has been postponed and will take place in the Vryburg Magistrate's Court in the North West on 30 March 2021.
This follows the suspect’s appearance in the same court on Tuesday.
In an interview with OFM News, the provincial spokesperson, Aafje Botma, says another suspect was arrested on 22 March 2021 and appeared in the same court on Tuesday. Both suspects will re-appear on 30 March, says Botma.
The animals were recovered and handed back to the rightful owner.
“According to allegations, the farm manager left the farm after work on Friday 12 March 2021, and everything was in order. It is alleged that when he returned Monday morning, he noticed that there was something wrong with the kraal's gate. Further allegations state that when the manager went inside the kraal, he noticed that 98 cattle, worth R750 000, were missing. He reported the matter to the Vryburg Police Station,” Ramatseba says.
Police immediately attended to the matter and contacted their counterparts in Kuruman. Ramatseba further adds that the two provinces' investigations led to the arrest of the suspects and they directed the police to three farmers they sold the livestock to. In total, 82 cattle were recovered. “According to allegations, the suspects used a bakkie with a trailer to transport the livestock from Vryburg to Kuruman.”
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Sello Kwena, reminded farmers to brand mark their livestock as this will assist the police to identify the rightful owners.
