NPA confident of prosecution of SABC presenter─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:00 Tue, 30 Mar 2021
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has reaffirmed its stance on the successful prosecution of Lesedi FM award-winning presenter, charged for alleged tax fraud amounting to R1.7 million.
The Free State NPA spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, told OFM News that the institution is confident that Motseki Leine, known as Ba2cada, will successfully be prosecuted.
This after Leine made an appearance in the Regional Court in Bloemfontein on Monday to face charges of fraud. He was caught by the Hawks after he allegedly submitted false VAT returns between 2014 and 2018.
Magistrate Collen Nekosie postponed the matter between Leine and the state to 9 July 2021 for plea and trial.
The state prosecutor, Wellington Zamubuntu Sampisi, told Nekosie that the state is ready to take the matter against Leine to trial. He is out on R5 000 bail. The Botshabelo-born presenter earlier responded to his arrest and said he will prove that he does not make a lot of money as it has been alleged.
He conceded that he has issued tax returns and added that "unfortunately as young business people, issues of tax returns are a challenge that many face".
