Saul said this will strengthen the capacity of the provincial government to fight corruption and maladministration.

He also took a swipe at individuals who he says when caught stealing, try to delegitimise and discredit the state apparatus whose aim is to fight corruption. Saul says they have it that they can steal and cause havoc with impunity.

"Then as soon as they get trapped and exposed their first goal in self-defence is to discredit and delegitimise the state institutions, and if they fail in doing that they want to mobilise the party machinery against the state,” he adds.

He further states that the benefits of having the SIU offices in the province are very significant in that they will enable the province to fight against corruption. “Just by having this office in the province will assist us a lot in ensuring that we grow the gross domestic product (GDP) of this province. I am certain that some of you would know that the household consumption contributes about 67% to the GDP and one of the biggest contributors to the GDP of the province is government expenditure and currently it's standing at 21%. So, what government spends in the Northern Cape is at the heart of the economy of the Northern Cape," Saul concludes.
