SIU to get investigating ball rolling in NC─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:15 Sun, 04 Apr 2021
An alleged irregular tender involving a provincial department along with a certain municipality in the Northern Cape is to be scrutinized by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).
This follows the unveiling of the SIU's first-ever offices in the province.
The SIU is also set to probe a matter involving a piece of land as well as transport matters in the province.
During the unveiling of its offices in the province on Thursday, SIU head, Advocate Andy Mothibi, confirmed that the SIU has received a number of corruption and maladministration allegations in the province. He says some of the allegations relate to the matter of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procurement. Mothibi says consequence management needs to be affected so that thieves should see that there is consequence management and that the culture of impunity is being dealt with.
“These offices will enable us, as we are striving to do across the SIU, to speed up and turn around the investigation as speedily as possible and reach all of those legal outcomes such as civil litigations. This is in order to ensure that we schedule those cases in the special tribunal, and to recover as quickly as possible as well as to also speed up the disciplinary process that needs to be done against any official that is found to be guilty of misconduct, and of course, referrals for prosecution,” he adds.
