North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed two life sentences given to the 38-year-old Dannyboy Fistos Khumalo for the murder of his two sons, aged 11 and 12 respectively.
Kwena commended work done by the police to ensure that enough evidence is collected to put criminals such as Khumalo behind bars.
On Wednesday 14 April 2021, the High Court in Pretoria handed Khumalo two life sentences and three years for defeating the ends of justice. The accused poisoned his children and was arrested on Saturday 16 May 2020, until his sentencing a year later. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
In a media briefing that was held by Kwena, he said the incident was reported to the police on Friday 15 May 2020, and the accused was arrested on Monday 18 May 2020. The investigations showed that the father poisoned his children which were later found dead at Valkop Plot in the vicinity of Assen near Brits.
