Petition launched in NW against step-aside resolution─── LUCKY NKUYANE 15:08 Wed, 21 Apr 2021
Members of the ANC in the North West, who are not happy about the party’s controversial step-aside resolution, have launched a petition against the move which is set to sack the party's embattled Secretary-General (SG) Ace Magashule, amongst others.
These members, who are largely from the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, which includes the JB Marks and Matlosana Local Municipalities, have lashed out at the resolution, labelling it as selective.
Members, including former Dr KK Regional Secretary, Lopang Rothman, and former ANC Youth League chairperson in the region, Mandla Tawana, amongst others, says the National Executive Committee (NEC) has failed in its mandate of implementing 2017 Nasrec resolutions and decisions of its meetings. This after the party allegedly selected to deal with members who are in court facing criminal charges instead of also including those who also have cases opened against them but not in a court of law yet.
The group adds that the resolutions clearly shows that the ANC NEC is selective in implementing resolutions that are inconsistent in representing branch mandates and the tone of delegates in conferences.
OFM News last week reported that the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) confirmed that its coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, did meet the deadline and was able to send through the names of ANC members affected by the step-aside resolution. ANC top brass, including the embattled mayor of the troubled Potchefstroom-based municipality JB Marks, Kgotso Khumalo, and former MEC Wendy Nelson were some who were expected to top the step-aside list.
The duo is facing charges of corruption and fraud in unrelated criminal matters.
