The by-elections in both Nama Khoi Ward 2 and Gasegonyana Ward 2 were fiercely contested by political parties on Wednesday. The wards became vacant as a result of their councillors' deaths. ANC Provincial Secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, says they are pleased that the party received over 1300 votes in Gasegonyana, which represented over 80% of the total votes that were cast and won by more than 54% in Nama Khoi Ward 2. He, in a statement, says the victory is an indication that voters have placed their confidence and hope in the party to improve their living condition.

“Yes, as the ANC we acknowledge that a lot still needs to be done to address the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality. We remain steadfast in our commitment, with the support of the electorate that we will achieve economic freedom in our lifetime,” he said.

He further states that they are pleased the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) conducted free and fair by-elections with credible outcomes.

Meanwhile, the IEC has confirmed that the by-elections in 13 wards across the country ran without many hiccups.
