Residents of Ritchie, which is situated near Kimberley in the Northern Cape, have cancelled a community meeting that was planned before embarking on protests to voice service delivery concerns.

This, while a number of protests have been reported in Central South Africa.

According to Councillor Bonsile Makhamba, one of the issues expected to be raised during the meeting on Wednesday, was a sewerage main hole that has been overflowing for three weeks in Joe Slovo Street in Rietvale. He further explained that a municipal team from Kimberley assisted a local team and the problem was dealt with. Residents agreed that no protests will be held in the small town shortly after this issue was resolved.

This comes after OFM News recently reported that Kimberley residents have embarked on protests over their dissatisfaction with the Sol Plaatje Municipality, amongst other issues. Numerous roads were barricaded with stones and burning tyres and police were deployed to monitor the situation.
