The Voice finalist hits Bfn stage | News Article

Originally from the Kwazakhele suburb in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, the 26-year-old The Voice finalist, Siki Jo-An, is set to perform on Saturday 1 May 2021 as a headliner at the Music Extravaganza Show in Bloemfontein, Free State.

Project coordinator for the Music Extravaganza, Nathan Bagarette, says the main thing that sets the event apart from others is that it addresses the social ills in our community by bringing people together through music. In an exclusive interview with OFM News, Jo-An, or better known as Sikelelwa Qwazi, says her life has changed positively since the Voice, but ever since Covid-19 started, it had a negative impact on performing artists. She further says she is excited that she has been invited to perform in Bloemfontein at the Musicon and needed this opportunity, especially during the pandemic.

"We haven't had income for a long time and being out there and preparing for this show means a lot to me and feels like a blessing. I feel privileged as other artists are still waiting for gigs, so I feel very blessed that I'm going to come to Bloemfontein and perform for an audience," she says.

The soulful singer made headlines after she caught the attention of all four judges on The Voice within just ten seconds, with a standing ovation. This was during the reality talent show’s blind auditions, during which four judges listen to the contestants sing, but face away from the stage and don’t see the performance.

The Music Extravaganza event will take place both live and on stream, with performances from various local artists including Jo-An. Bagarette further says most artists are currently struggling financially to make ends meet, especially during the pandemic. “We are looking at how this project can assist the artists going forward during a time where artists are doing all sorts of things to gain a little income.”
