NW man arrested for attempted murder─── 07:16 Sat, 08 May 2021
Loyisa Nxiwa (25) made a brief appearance in the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court on Friday for attempted murder in a foiled armed robbery that took place in February this year.
According to North West Police spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, it is thought that Nxiwa was part of an armed gang that attempted to rob a gold mine in Viljoenskroon.
They reportedly gained entry to the mine by cutting the fence, then made their way to the smelting area where they broke through a wall to gain access.
The suspects allegedly started firing shots when they spotted security officers approaching, then fled the scene. Investigations continued leading to the arrest of three accused in the following weeks.
Nxiwa is the fourth to be arrested. Meanwhile, his matter was postponed to 10 May 2021 where he will be joined in court by his co-accused.
