Seven municipal employees test positive for #Covid19 in FS town | News Article

Seven employees at the Letsemeng municipal building in Koffiefontein in the Free State have tested positive for Covid-19 as the third wave has officially hit the province.

This is according to a notice issued by the office of the mayor, Abram Lebaka. In this notice, the mayor advises residents that the municipal building will be closed for three days.

This means the offices will be closed for decontamination from Friday 14 May until Sunday 16 May, with activities expected to resume on Monday 17 May 2021. The mayor has further implored residents to make use of their online services to pay, amongst others.

The Provincial Department of Health earlier warned that the situation in the province was getting worse. The provincial spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, said, “we have to ensure that we put all hands on deck. We need to communicate as if our lives are dependent on it”.

"At a provincial level, the Free State province is currently experiencing a third wave," said the National Institute for Communicable Diseases' (NICD) acting executive director, Professor Adrian Puren. Puren maintained that the country itself has not yet crossed the national threshold for a new wave, but he warned that the increase in numbers are worrisome.

Presently, the Free State has 4 828 active Covid-19 cases and 3,969 reported deaths. With 84,593 people no longer having the coronavirus, the province's total confirmed cases stand at 93,390.
