Late EFF councillor described as humble, disciplined fighter─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:40 Fri, 14 May 2021
The deputy president of the EFF, Floyd Shivambu, has described the deceased EFF proportional representation (PR) councillor, Eddie Goliath, as a dedicated leader.
He says Goliath, who passed away after losing the fight against Covid-19, was humble and a disciplined EFF member. Shivambu and scores of EFF members held a memorial service to commemorate the life of Goliath in Bloemfontein. Shivambu says Goliath, who was previously a member of the ANC before joining the EFF in 2013, did not join the Red Berets because of a desire for party position but to serve his people.
Meanwhile, the family of Goliath will on Friday afternoon have a closed memorial service to commemorate his life.
He says in 2014 the EFF elected Goliath to the position of Treasurer-General (TG). Shivambu says this showed the trust and strong belief the party had in the calibre of Goliath. According to Goliath’s daughter Andrussa - who had an exclusive interview with Bloemfontein Courant - indicated that he became the chairperson of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in 1991. Shortly after that, he was elected as the ward councillor for Ward 16 in Heidedal for two consecutive terms," she said.

The report says after the terms ended, he moved into the council of Mangaung as a mayoral committee member for two years. Andrussa further told Bloemfontein Courant that her father was also the financial portfolio manager for the Motheo District for about a year and a half.
“In 2013, Goliath left the African National Congress to join the EFF, where he became the provincial treasurer. In 2020, he was co-opted as a member of the financial command team. Goliath says her father was recently deployed in the Mangaung and Xhariep District,” the report adds. He is expected to be laid to his last resting place on Saturday with strict Covid-19 regulations adhered to.
