Plans are in place to curb #Covid19 in NC | News Article

The Northern Cape Health Department says it is reviewing the initial plan of the first wave in relation to quarantine sites.

The Health MEC, Maruping Lekwene, says they will be forced to open some of the sites in the Frances Baard and ZF Mgcawu district municipalities, which includes Kimberley and Upington, respectively.

Lekwene says these two districts are the main concerns in the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in the province.

“So our intensified containment measures is to ensure that we call on all our people to ensure that they observe Covid-19 protocols as the immediate intervention. [So] we must wear our masks 24/7, wash hands [regularly], sanitise and avoid groups or the masses. [We also need] to ensure that we social-distance because it’s very important,” he adds.

He says earlier this year a warning was raised to members of the communities that the Easter Weekend and the subsequent school holidays could cause a spike in new cases in the province.

"This was evident in the Namakwa district with new cases identified in local schools.

Subsequently, the Department assigned its district Incidence team to deal with the potential resurgence in cases in the Namakwa District. This intervention resulted in Namakwa recording the lowest daily infections in the last two weeks,” Lekwene adds.
