#MangaungShutdown: #Covid19 spike possible─── 14:02 Mon, 17 May 2021
Residents of Mangaung barricaded most roads to town with burning tyres, rocks, and garbage with the aim to shut down the metro on Monday. Residents were seen without any face masks or social distancing while protesting.
This is a cause for concern, especially as it was recently declared that the Free State is one of the provinces battling the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a Facebook post, premier Sisi Ntombela, pleaded with the public to be vigilant and not let their guard down. However, Mangaung residents seem to be ignoring Covid-19 protocols and this could lead to more cases in the province.
OFM News had earlier reported that Themba Zweni, who is one of Mangaung Community Concern members, explained that the main cause of the shutdown in Mangaung is caused by the lack of job and business opportunities, land, service delivery, and to fight against corruption.
