Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela, has called upon residents to remain composed amid the ongoing protests in Mangaung.

Ntombela's spokesperson, Sello Pietersen, says barricaded roads have led to the foreclosure of many schools and businesses due to the violent protests.

Meanwhile, protesters say they will not stop until President Cyril Ramaphosa responds to their ‘memorandum of demands’. Protesters tell OFM News that they have yet to receive a response from the president and will therefore continue with escalating protest action until their inquiries have been answered.

“We are saying as the community tomorrow the same action is going to take place in Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu. We are saying for us, it doesn’t stop today. Shutdown will continue as long as we are not getting answers, we are not getting attended to and we are not addressed correctly. We will forever perpetuate this particular action” says an anonymous protester

Ntombela has raised concerns regarding the gathering of the excessive amounts of protesters gathering amid the province suffering a third wave of the earth ravaging Covid-19 adds Pietersen. Ntombela goes on to reassure occupants of the province that stakeholders will meet and devise possible solutions to solve any impediments affecting the communities of Mangaung.

Furthermore, the protester says “We’ll do shutdown until they come back to us. We are starting again tomorrow- this protest is going to Dewetsdorp, Soutpan, Thaba Nchu and Botshabelo and here, in Bloemfontein it will continue until we get answers”.

One protestor, Tebogo Buso from Bergman, tells OFM News that the shutdown had been prepared since the president visited Botshabelo- a small town outside Bloemfontein.

Ultimately, protests are set to continue until tangible resolutions are provided to community members.
