The Sol Plaatje Municipality in the Northern Cape confirms the Central Business District (CBD) in Kimberley is without electricity.

The municipality's Thoko Riet says this is due to cable theft. Riet says they are working on restoring power to the CBD and all affected areas. She further sent the municipality's apology for the inconvenience caused and urged communities to report suspicious activities to the police. Meanwhile, the Mangaung Metro's power utility, Centlec, has confirmed that it has suspended some of its services due to the ongoing protests in Mangaung.

Whilst Centlec has confirmed that large parts of Mangaung will continue having power, it confirmed that it might not be able to attend nor respond to complaints timeously due to interruptions.

The city has come to a standstill due to protests in large parts of Mangaung.

"Our electricity Department is attending to a cable fault as a result of cable theft at the corner of New Main and Craven Streets in the CBD, which has left the area without electricity. Efforts to ring-feed the area are underway," said Riet.
