NW father detained for daughter's murder─── 09:40 Thu, 20 May 2021
A 47-year-old father, who is facing charges of kidnapping and murder of his 2-year-old daughter, is being detained by the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court after his appearance on Wednesday.
The man's court appearance comes after the lifeless body of the toddler was found inside the ceiling of his residential home in Alabama.
The North West National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, told OFM News that the matter has been postponed to 26 May for further investigations and bail application. He said the state will oppose bail.
It is alleged the man took the daughter without the consent of the mother at Extension 20 in Jouberton last Thursday, this is while the mother was at the hospital.
A case of a missing person was opened at the Jouberton Police Station and a search ensued, which led to the discovery of the baby at the father's home.
Mamothame confirmed that the man will remain in police custody until his next appearance.
