NW municipality's legal advisor in hot water─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:42 Tue, 25 May 2021
North West's Tswaing Municipality's chief legal advisor will have to re-appear before the courts in July.
This, as the 47-year-old Petrus Hotane was charged with fraud worth over R1.4 million. Hotane was arrested on Monday, made a brief appearance before the Delareyville Magistrate’s Court and got released on bail of R 5000.
According to the Hawks, the municipality's legal representative was allegedly hired by a widow in 2019, to manage the affairs of her late husband’s estate. The suspect, however, gave the client an amount of R68 000 and allegedly made unauthorised withdrawals of more than R1.4 million from the estate for himself.
The Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, says following lengthy investigations, Hotane was finally arrested and is set to appear before the same court on July 9. Investigations continue.
