#Covid19 cases surge, NC and FS make an appeal─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 05:15 Mon, 31 May 2021
The Free State and Northern Cape Education Departments have called on communities to protect children from the spread of the coronavirus.
These two departments have confirmed teaching and learning have been negatively affected by the high number of learners, teachers, and support staff who have tested positive.
Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, has taken to social media to appeal to communities to adhere to Covid-19 regulations and to protect children as 174 learners and 162 teachers have tested positive in schools around the province in the past week.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his address to the nation last night, further expressed concern at the high number of active cases in the two provinces and stated that all Covid-19 regulations must be adhered to as the two provinces are also already experiencing the third wave of the pandemic.
Due to a surge of new infections, Ramaphosa announced that the country will be placed on adjusted alert level 2 from Monday.
