Case of illegal 'toll-gate' crossings at Fouriesburg postponed─── 12:27 Tue, 01 Jun 2021
The case against the 38-year-old farm owner, identified as Modiehi Mofokeng, and the illegal immigrant who was found in her presence when she was arrested, Thabo Moji, has been postponed to the 7th of June 2021 in the Fouriesburg Magistrate’s court.
This is according to the Free State Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, who says Mofokeng and Moji will both remain in custody until their bail application at their next appearance.
Singo says Mofokeng used a backhoe to dump sand on her rivals' other illegal crossings at the border, leaving only her crossing open for use. After receiving a tip-off, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) set up an undercover operation and asked Mofokeng if they could gain access to her farm to move a hijacked vehicle across the border. It’s said she agreed and charged them R1 000 for one vehicle to cross. Mofokeng was promptly arrested, alongside Moji.
OFM News previously reported on the matter where both suspects were arrested on 20 May 2021. Singo says Mofokeng is subjected to further investigations to ascertain if she had her hand in any other cross-border crimes.
