According to the DA councillor, Marietta Visser, they voted against the budget because of its content and lack of public participation. She said the responsibilities fell on the Acting CFO, since the council failed to appoint a new CFO in 2018.

Visser said they are hopeful that proper procedures will now be followed after the bold move was taken by the council to remove the municipal manager, as well the mayor in Masilonyana. 

Meanwhile, Masilonyana, together with Makeleketla community representatives, met with the Free State Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC, Thembeni Nxangisa, on Thursday to iron out their grievances.
