#CoronavirusNC: Five more schools to reopen─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:23 Sun, 13 Jun 2021
Five more Northern Cape schools are yet to reopen following positive Covid-19 cases.
Out of 29 schools that had to close from the 1st of June due to confirmed cases, 24 have reopened.
Education spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, says they are pleased they have recorded a considerable decrease in Covid-19 infections for the past week in schools as compared to the previous weeks.
He says 103 new positive cases were recorded this past week and he would like to appeal to communities to continue to adhere to Covid-19 regulations.
The province is currently amongst those with the highest active cases as the country battles the third wave of the pandemic.
A total of 54 394 confirmed cases has been recorded in the entire province with 45 255 recoveries and 1 227 deaths.
“The Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact enormously on valuable learning and teaching time in terms of curriculum coverage across all grades. We plead with parents to provide schools with the necessary cooperation as they implement their curriculum recovery plans. It is very important that all learners remain on par with their schoolwork, whilst parents provide them with the necessary support at home.”
He adds that they will continue to work closely with the Health Department to assess the situation in schools and provide the necessary support.
