NW town plagued by sewage spillage issues | News Article

Residents of Tswelelang in Wolmaransstad, which is part of the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality in the North West, are pleading with the MEC for Cooperative Governance (Cogta), Mmoloki Cwaile, to address their service delivery issues.

Concerned resident, Ncedile Molosi, tells OFM News that residents in Extension 11 and 15, amongst others in town, are being subjected to continuous issues of raw sewage spillages. He says the sewage flow has been affecting them for more than 6 months and despite residents reporting the matter to the relevant authorities in the municipality, nothing is being done. Molosi says if their issues are not being addressed by the MEC, the residents will be left with no choice but to embark on a total shutdown of the municipality. The municipality and department are yet to comment on OFM News’ inquiries.

“What we are going to do in the first place is to apply for a peaceful march that we'll be asking the MEC to come. If they are not going to respond to our march we will take a decision from the community what needs to be done. If we're supposed to shut down Maquassi Hills we will shut it down. There are a lot of issues, the first one is that the service delivery [is non-existent] and they don’t collect rubbish, and no proper roads,” he adds.
