The Northern Cape Department of Education has kicked off the 2022 online learner registrations.

Parents are reminded about the admission applications that should be made directly at the school of their choice for other grades. According to the Northern Cape Department of Education spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, learner registration for grade R, 1 and 8 are progressing slowly in the province, compared to the previous year.

"The department has identified 150 walk-in centres across the province to assist parents to capture their applications, however, the usage of these centres are fairly low. We have requested the principals of all primary schools to ensure that all grade 7 learners have registered. Our biggest concern at this stage is that more than 11 000 grade 7 learners must still apply, said Van der Merwe.”

The schools in the Northern Cape have been requested to assist learners and parents to comply and register by 30 June 2021. The Northern Cape Department of Education is expected to increase its efforts to advocate in terms of the Online Admissions System, as parents are expected to have applied online for the 2022 academic year within 16 days. Van der Merwe further stated that the department pleads with parents to apply in time in order to secure space at public schools. He also warned parents about limited space and late applications that might be considered at a later stage.
